With a bustling cafe culture, world-class restaurants and wonderful green spaces - the city was ranked as the 12th most inventive city in the world by Forbes. Situated on Sweden's west coast at the outlet of the Göta River, the city is known for hosting some of the largest annual events in Scandinavia. Getting There
Gothenburg is easily accessible by air. There are two airports that service the city, Göteborg (Gothenburg) City Airport and Göteborg (Gothenburg) Landvetter Airport. Both located close to the city centre with easy bus routes to and from both airports.
Gothenburg is also connected by train line with lines that service Sweden, Norway and Finland.
Public transport around the city centre is also very good, and day passes valid for all public transport can be purchased.
Climate
Gothenburg has a mild climate compared to other places at a similar latitude as the Gulf Stream brings warmer tropical air to the region increasing the average temperature to around 20°C in the summer and 1°C in the winter.
Geography
Gothenburg is situated on Sweden’s west coast, equidistant from Oslo and Copenhagen. The city stands 12 m (39 ft) above sea level at the mouth of the River Göta.
During the summer, daylight hours extend to 18 hours and 5 minutes, but lasts just 6 hours and 32 minutes in late December.
Plants and Animals
Gothenburg has many parks throughout the city. Slottsskogen Park has a free open zoo within it. Here you can find Penguins, goats and many other animals.
There are over 11 parks in Gothenburg ranging from small inner city parks large open spaces many hectares in size. All the parks have a large variety of plants, some with over 16,000 species.
